Yale Library Online Remote Access Services

As part of the university's COVID-19 response, Yale Library has expanded remote services and support for faculty, staff, and students who are not on campus, including Yale College students enrolled remotely, Use these links and tips to access library resources  when you are away from campus. Off-campus access to e-resources

The library uses a system called EZProxy to provide off-campus access for authorized users from Yale University and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

To use this service, start your search at library.yale.edu using Quicksearch or any other access point in the “Research” drop-down menu. When you click on the request link for an e-book, journal, or database, you will be prompted through a sign-in and authentication, and then linked to the requested resource. The Virtual Private Network (VPN) remains fully available for anyone who prefers that mode of access, and VPN login will continue to be necessary for some selected e-resources. Click here to download and install Yale’s VPN software. Authenticate your sign-in with Duo Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

 

Off-campus access to physical collections

Current students, staff, and faculty may request to have books, videos, and other collection materials mailed to home addresses in the U.S. using mail-to-address request links in Orbis or Quicksearch. Students in residence may have materials delivered to their on-campus housing. Mail to address may  be used for Interlibrary Loan or BorrowDirect materials. Yale ID holders may request digital scans of library materials using the “Request Scan of Article/Chapter” links in Orbis and Quicksearch. Current faculty and students who require remote access to special collections materials for teaching or research should contact the special collections repository to find out whether the materials may be available in digital form.

Research support

Schedule a research consultation via email, Zoom, or phone, or email a librarian directly.

Schedule a Primary Source and Research Collections Consultation – a joint online (or telephone) consultation with an archivist or curator and a subject expert librarian in your field of study – to learn more about primary sources in all formats available at Yale and elsewhere that could support your research interests. This service is available for Yale faculty, students, and staff only.

Watch library how-to videos on the Yale Library YouTube channel, and browse librarian-created research guides on hundreds of topics. Take online workshops. Request consultations on the digital humanities and data, geographic information systems, and/or statistical support services. Send general library questions or comments to Ask Yale Library.

 

Online collections and e-resources

  • Find more than 1 billion items (journal articles, newspaper and magazine articles, citations, abstracts, ebook chapters, and reference works) with Articles+. Remove the “Scholarly & Peer Review” and “Journal Article” limits to see the fullest results set.
  • Find nearly 7 million e-books, including 5 million titles through Hathi Trust with Books+.
  • Find more than 250,000 unique online journals in Books+ or in the Journal AZ list. 
  • Find more than 1,000 unique databases (including e-books, journals, archival materials, and streaming media) in the Quicksearch database list.
  • Find more than a million images of special collections materials in our digital collections.
